Melania Trump says Donald wanted to have more kids

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recently marked two decades of marriage, a milestone that reflects both their long-standing partnership and shared focus on family. Their son, Barron Trump, born in 2006, has remained at the center of their lives since the couple’s marriage that same year.

Barron spent his early childhood inside Trump Tower in Manhattan, where he reportedly occupied an entire floor — a rare level of privacy even within one of New York City’s most exclusive buildings. Despite being surrounded by opulence, Melania opted to raise her son with a more traditional parenting style, avoiding the constant presence of staff that often accompanies high-profile families.

Unlike many families of their social standing, the Trumps chose not to hire a full-time nanny. Melania took personal responsibility for most of Barron’s day-to-day care, preparing his meals and ensuring his schedule stayed consistent. She explained her reasoning in a 2015 interview with People:

“Barron is 9 years old. He needs somebody as a parent there, so I am with him all the time, as you know my husband is traveling all the time.”

Donald Trump has made similar remarks over the years, emphasizing that they deliberately limited household staff involvement. He argued that keeping outside help “to a minimum” helps strengthen the parent-child bond.

Melania has often described Barron as imaginative and independent, a child encouraged to express himself creatively. In a Parenting interview, she revealed that his room mixed elegant décor with elements of his favorite interests — planes and helicopters. She even allowed him to draw on the walls of his playroom, seeing it as a healthy outlet for creativity rather than a mess to scold.

“One day he was playing bakery and wrote Barron’s Bakery on the wall with crayons,” she recalled. “His imagination is important. We can always paint it over.”

Through her parenting approach, Melania Trump sought to ensure that Barron’s childhood remained grounded despite the extraordinary world around him — a blend of structure, affection, and room for imagination.
