NEW: Old Man Who Falsely ‘Confessed’ To Kirk Tragedy Hit With Stunning Charges

A political activist who falsely claimed responsibility for the shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk told authorities he did so to “draw attention away from the real shooter.”
Seventy-one-year-old George Zinn, described as a longtime “gadfly,” was taken into custody in handcuffs following the incident at Utah Valley University. Zinn approached police shortly after Kirk was shot, shouting, “I shot him, now shoot me.” Authorities noted that he was unarmed and subsequently arrested.
During police questioning, Zinn admitted he did not shoot Kirk but claimed his actions were meant to distract investigators from the actual perpetrator. Court documents indicate he even said he “wanted to be a martyr for the person who was shot,” and his false confession delayed the investigation, diverting valuable law enforcement resources at a critical moment.
Zinn is currently facing charges of obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony, for misleading police during the high-profile case.
