Remembering Banx and Bowyn: Family, Community, and the Importance of Water Safety
Family members described Banx as an energetic, playful child who loved Ninja Turtles, Pokémon, and splashing in puddles, while Bowyn enjoyed karate, video games, and outdoor activities. The brothers were inseparable—best friends who shared everything and tragically passed away side by side. One tribute read, “They were brothers. Best friends. Two little boys who did everything together — and now, heartbreakingly, left this world together.”
In the wake of the tragedy, Banx and Bowyn’s aunt, Emery Jarrel, launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral and memorial expenses. She remembered Bowyn as a caring second grader and Banx as a spirited, joyful child. Another fundraiser was organized by family friend Terri Blanscet for Banx’s father, Landon McAmis, calling him “the absolute sweetest soul” and his father’s “whole world.” By October 11, over 300 donors had contributed more than $35,000 to support the grieving family.
The tragedy has brought the Johnson County community together in mourning, while also serving as a solemn reminder of the dangers posed by open water. Authorities continue to stress the importance of close supervision and proper safety measures to prevent similar incidents. Though Banx and Bowyn are no longer with us, their memory endures in the hearts of their loved ones and the community, underscoring both the fragility of life and the need for vigilance around water.
