House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) blasted former President Donald Trump after a White House meeting meant to prevent a government shutdown took an unexpected turn online.
During an interview on MSNBC, host Lawrence O’Donnell raised the subject of a Trump-posted AI video that mocked Jeffries by placing a sombrero and mustache on him while mariachi music played in the background. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who was also at the meeting, appeared in the same clip.
Jeffries didn’t hold back. “It’s a disgusting video. And we’re going to continue to make clear that bigotry will get you nowhere,” he said. He went on to accuse Republicans of waging an “unprecedented assault” on healthcare, citing threats to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act.
