Heartbreaking 911 call reveals new details about Diane Keaton’s sudden death

Hollywood is in mourning following the death of Academy Award–winning actress Diane Keaton, who passed away at the age of 79. Known for her timeless charm, wit, and distinctive style, Keaton’s passing marks the end of an era for one of cinema’s most beloved and original talents.
While the official cause of death has not yet been disclosed, 911 audio obtained by TMZ provided a glimpse into her final moments. In the early hours of October 11, a dispatcher could be heard saying, “Rescue 19, person down,” followed by Keaton’s home address. Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her family confirmed to People that she passed away “peacefully.” Still, the suddenness of her decline left those close to her stunned. One longtime friend shared, “She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”
In the weeks before her death, Keaton’s close friend and collaborator, songwriter Carol Bayer Sager — who co-wrote Keaton’s song “First Christmas” — recalled a touching final meeting. “She was very thin… she had lost so much weight,” Sager said. “She was still taking photos, still curious, still shining her light — but physically, something had changed.”
After spending time in Palm Springs while her Los Angeles home underwent repairs from wildfire damage, Keaton had only recently returned to the city. Despite her health struggles, friends say her humor and independence never faded. “She was funny right up until the end,” one said. “She lived exactly how she wanted to — on her own terms.”
