Hero Revealed as Store Co-Owner’s Father in Monterrey Robbery Incident

Following the dramatic encounter at Carnes Cares in Monterrey, the butcher shop later shared the surveillance footage on its Facebook page, where it quickly went viral, drawing tens of thousands of views and reactions. While some social media users questioned the authenticity of the video, store co-owner Daniel Cardenas confirmed that the incident was entirely real and deeply frightening for everyone involved.

Cardenas explained that the suspect had reportedly visited the store a few days before the robbery attempt, possibly to observe its layout and security. The man in the cowboy hat—who became an unexpected hero—was later identified as Cardenas’s father, Reynaldo Cardenas, also a co-owner of the store.

Despite his composed demeanor during the encounter, Reynaldo later admitted that he was afraid throughout the incident. “Actually, he told me that he acted that way out of fear,” Cardenas wrote in a Facebook message. “He really believed that the man was going to shoot them. When he had the chance, he acted instinctively to disarm him.”

The local police arrived approximately ten minutes after the altercation and took the gunman into custody. The firearm was secured, and no injuries were reported among the employees or customers. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name, but the case remains under investigation.

Carnes Cares, located in the metropolitan area of Monterrey—one of Mexico’s largest cities—has operated as a family business for years, known for its high-quality meat products and close community ties. In the wake of the incident, many residents have praised the elder Cardenas for his quick thinking and bravery, though his son insists his father’s actions were purely instinctive, not calculated heroism.

“I’m just glad he wasn’t hurt,” Daniel Cardenas said when speaking about his father.

The video’s widespread circulation has renewed discussions across Mexico about the dangers faced by small business owners and the importance of remaining calm under pressure. While the frightening moment could have ended in tragedy, it instead highlighted the courage and composure of ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
