Trump Orders Troops To ‘War-Ravaged’ Portland to Protect Federal Property

President Donald Trump has directed the deployment of “all necessary” troops to Portland in response to intensifying protests at the city’s federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility. The president emphasized that he was authorizing the use of “full force, if necessary” to protect federal personnel and infrastructure.
Trump’s order, shared on Truth Social, stated: “At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing full force, if necessary.”
The announcement follows a series of violent incidents targeting federal officers. The Department of Homeland Security has described Portland as a central point for Antifa-linked activity, citing repeated attempts to disrupt operations at the detention facility. Reported incidents include an individual aiming a laser at an officer’s eyes, the use of smoke grenades against agents, and attempts to damage government equipment.
Increased federal presence in Portland has been met with appeals from local officials urging protesters to remain peaceful. However, recent attacks, including an indictment of three women accused of following an ICE agent home and livestreaming the officer’s address online, have escalated tensions further.
The situation reached a new level of concern when a suspected sniper opened fire at an ICE facility in Texas, wounding three migrants. Authorities reported that a bullet recovered at the scene was inscribed with the words “anti ICE.”
With rising violence and mounting unrest, the administration has moved to broaden its security response. But this is only the beginning of a wider federal crackdown…
