University of Wyoming and Swimming Community Honor the Lives of Clark, Slabber, and Muir

In the days following the accident, the University of Wyoming community has come together in mourning, paying tribute to three young men remembered for their talent, leadership, and unbreakable team spirit. Vigils and memorial gatherings have taken place across campus, with hundreds of students, coaches, and residents uniting to honor their memory.

University President Ed Seidel called the tragedy “an unimaginable loss,” offering condolences to the families and emphasizing that counseling and emotional support services are available for those affected. Athletics Director Tom Burman praised the athletes for representing “the best of what it means to be a Wyoming Cowboy,” noting that their energy and sportsmanship left a lasting mark both in and out of the pool.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and First Lady Jennie Gordon also shared their sympathies, urging the public to keep the victims’ families, friends, and teammates in their thoughts. Across the collegiate swimming world, tributes have poured in from rival teams, coaches, and alumni expressing solidarity with the Wyoming program.

Teammates described Charlie Clark as a dedicated competitor with a contagious sense of humor, Luke Slabber as a leader who inspired others through discipline and positivity, and Carson Muir as a driven freshman with limitless potential.

At a candlelight vigil held at the university’s Aquatics Center, flowers, swim caps, and university flags lined the pool deck as the community stood in silence. Through tears and shared memories, teammates reflected on the profound bond they shared with their fallen friends — one built on early-morning practices, shared victories, and the pursuit of excellence.

As the investigation continues, the university has pledged to support the victims’ families and the two surviving teammates through recovery. Though the loss has left an unfillable void, the legacy of Clark, Slabber, and Muir will endure — a testament to their determination, kindness, and the unity they inspired among all who knew them.
