University of Wyoming Community Stunned After 3 Students Are Tragically Killed

A devastating car accident near the Wyoming-Colorado border has claimed the lives of three members of the University of Wyoming’s swimming and diving team, sending shockwaves through the college athletic community.

The victims have been identified as Charlie Clark, 19, a sophomore from Las Vegas; Luke Slabber, 21, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa; and Carson Muir, 18, a freshman from Birmingham, Alabama. The crash occurred Thursday afternoon along U.S. Highway 287, between Livermore and Virginia Dale, Colorado — a stretch of road known for its open plains and challenging crosswinds.

According to investigators, the vehicle, a Toyota RAV4 carrying five student-athletes, veered off the southbound lane and rolled multiple times before coming to rest in a field. The Colorado State Patrol said that two passengers were ejected from the car, and three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other students — both teammates on the university’s men’s swimming and diving roster — survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and were released from the hospital. Authorities confirmed that one of the survivors had been driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, which happened shortly before 2:45 p.m.

Early reports indicate the crash remains under investigation, with officials examining potential factors such as speed, weather, distraction, or mechanical issues. No official cause has been determined.
